Well, I think it finally happened. . . Consumers and movie fans who do not have a Blu-ray compatible DVD player is now officially SOL. The standard DVD release of Julie and Julia has a peculiarity that a commentary tracks and behind the scenes featurette. For the full range of special features, you need to buy Blue-Ray version of the film, and of course a Blue-Ray DVD player. Features not available on standard DVD: a tour of Julia Child’s kitchen at the Smithsonian preparation; featurette “Friends and Family Remember Julia Child,” and “kitchen”, with Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, and other celebrity chefs most favorite dishes of Julia Child. I went to the film, Julie and Julia alone on the idea that each project Meryl Streep is in question, be automatically good. I mean, this is not a simple case of “start Meryl Streep better than Amy Adams,” although many other commentators would like to paint it as. It is much more complicated. Almost everything she does is phenomenal. Unfortunately for me, their performance is a bit too far on top. It’s Hammy and while the quality may be interesting at times (his constant cheerfulness is infectious), the script is so dense and hollow, it does little Streep on the woman, who was Julia Child said. Pretty much sums up my reaction to Julie and Julia, a film about not one but two memoirs on. It is difficult on a picture where the act is wrong burned or sliced beef vegetables inspire. Of course, I expect this sort of thing, and it is in all the ads, but I also think, like the film disappeared, there are also more than we would be a somewhat lower than Julia Child, or perhaps even discover Julie Powell, their imitators. Their immense talents do not seem well used by Ephron. The film is like a television show, filmed mostly in medium shots.
