Well, I think it finally happened. . . Consumers and movie fans who do not have a Blu-ray compatible DVD player is now officially SOL. The standard DVD release of Julie and Julia has a peculiarity that a commentary tracks and behind the scenes featurette. For the full range of special features, you need to buy Blue-Ray version of the film, and of course a Blue-Ray DVD player. Features not available on standard DVD: a tour of Julia Child’s kitchen at the Smithsonian preparation; featurette “Friends and Family Remember Julia Child,” and “kitchen”, with Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, and other celebrity chefs most favorite dishes of Julia Child. Why does not the studio release a special edition two-disc in the default format for consumers like me who do not have the very latest in home entertainment? I liked the movie (especially the divine Ms. Streep), Julia Child has produced “My Life in France”, very popular book Julie Powell, J & J, “and can not tell you how much I’m owning the DVD. I am offended, and not in a position to buy a new DVD player in this economy, not even at Christmas. Who really stinks. So five stars for the film itself, no stars for handling DVD release.

  2. What in the world and French-made TV American food pioneer Julia Child have in common, with only official 30-something food blogger Julie Powell

other than meet the love of food, lots of butter and a major project on the need for a particular purpose, the two main characters in the film biography, Nora Ephron’s “Julie and Julia share marriages” with great men who are not provided by their partner desire for self-identity defined by more than a few episodes of self-absorption. Like a good soufflĂ©, wrinkles Ephron stories told in two books, Powell’s “Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously” and the child’s “My Life in France” without exhausting the entire mixture, although this review would be more scenes have benefited the very talented Meryl Streep, who bought the property (all high-pitched voice, champagne, sparkling pools and the shoulders squared) as the indomitable Julia and their role more exuberant UN definition as Donna in this “Mamma Mia The Movie (DVD)” debacle.

Ephron’s 1950 show in Paris with a gourmet appreciation for what this city forever and the world of food – the first look at Julia lunch of sole meuniere – nets boy delicious fish rich in meat on the table for the public “very audible groan of anticipation and satisfaction for its buttery taste, but it is not good Long Island city and its maze of gray-colored buildings high and apartments in pizzerias. Somehow know both Julie and Julia, to get to where their ingredients and manage to beat chop (very funny scene, one of Julia’s side of a mountain practice of onions) and the strength of the legs of veal, lobster and duck into exquisite works of edible art. The rich chocolate cake, whipped cream and raspberry foam torments, as the porn food that it is – a sensual and lascivious reminder of what is really important in life – you leave the theater hungry.
< , br /> along this line, the Act on two couples, Paul (Stanley Tucci) and Julia and Eric (Chris Messina) and Julie as aphrodisiacs allow either the food or the food industry to remove it in the general direction of the bedroom where segue dessert or appetizer in some cases, in the joy of sex and more sex – not surprising, Julia was always smiling. The two male characters offer support to encourage women like architecture of the foothills of the Cathedral of Notre Dame even when faced with this a bit like an “I Love Lucy”-type arrangements seem. Little work of these two ladies, their ideas, whether intentionally or by chance and Ephron said, as they make their good marriages that the credit – although Powell a matter of real life, he has not, in their chronic-yet published, is the focus on learning the art of butchery.

Amy Adams “by Julie Powell seems just ran into too much sugar, especially if you are upgrading from the Julie / Julia Project blog or the book bearing the same name to read how the movie. In their version, Ephron the conservative who hates Powell, cleans his apartment, washed more secular light mouth and happily removed plays the girlfriend, taking third memory. But the slim figured Adams claims to have won his character after a weight year from the rich French cuisine just seems thin, and yet this Giselle carelessness and naivete, they do so in the Disney movie “Enchanted (Special Edition).” However, innate cute Adams and 20 users a sense of well works as a foil for life rather than as an enfant terrible Streep.

Bottom Line? Nora Ephron’s “Julie and Julia” tells the projects of two women in two very different generations with special needs similar. In combination foodie / Chick Flick it works very well in representing the determination and power of a slow and steady perseverance which ultimately leads to success. However, “Julie and Julia” main purpose seems to be a tribute to marry well, which is behind every great woman as equals and support to be men. Recommended.

  3. I went to the film, Julie and Julia alone on the idea that each project Meryl Streep is in question, be automatically good. I could not imagine before they see as they would perhaps be the work of the action because it is on two papers, one for each of the two women in question is based. Meryl Streep playing Julia Child and Amy Adams plays Julie Powell. Because of their immense respect for Julia Child and her love for cooking by Julie Powell decided to set aside 365 days to cook for her husband and herself, and as it turned out, several other revenue 524 Julia Child’s. It began as a way to break the boredom of having to work day, a leak to live in such a small apartment, and a way to teach him self-discipline in sticking to a planned treatment on one day to another. The result was, however, that much more.

If Julia Child and Julie Powell was a very important knowledge about the usefulness of good food. Good food is like great sex, two of them are more than “OK” to put a smile on your face that lasts for days at a time as you think. And the two women have in common the idea that French should be delicious food available to the average American family, even if you do not have servants to cook for yourself or income that you eat in a fabulous restaurant French at any time, you can. Both had wonderful husband that supports and encourages them to live their dream of investigations dull existence represents the achievements of their husbands. The film captures very well the difficulty of this task for both Julie and Julia. Both had reached their forces in the fight against their targets, but the love that was evident in each of their marriages each surmounted.

One poster for the film poster with a one-way is a black background, placed two eggs (brown and white), and the question of the “Passion . Ambition. butter. Do you have what it takes? ” If the movie is the answer to this question is for both women clearly “yes, but as is the case, none of them alone.” Failure to do so alone, but don ‘ not detract from the uniqueness of their services.

  4. I mean, this is not a simple case of “start Meryl Streep better than Amy Adams,” although many other commentators would like to paint it as. It is much more complicated. In fact, Amy Adams is well here. It has its moments of charm, its moments of intensity, his moments of hysteria and all, it is sufficient. The real problem I have with “Julie & Julia” is that it is not the height of the object and the script is a mess messy and uninspired.

For example, a few “other” things.

Travel film of the life of Julia Child in Paris and the life of Julie Powell, in New York. Streep is the child as they take possession of its own identity begins to learn to cook and to channel their debonair in a career in health and respectable. Adams described Powell as he has to break the oppressed in the neighborhood so pathetic, they can be found in the recipes of Julia Child is selected attempted. It is clear that Powell is inspired and in awe of the child and want to feel a connection with it.

For me, it sounds like it could get delicious results. Unfortunately, the food is rather bland.

I will continue with the game, what is there, getting all the attention bin. When I saw this movie in the theater every month, it was the first bit of “potential candidate for an Oscar.” Everybody was furious Streep as “on the path to the podium for his third Oscar and I I was so happy. I love Meryl Streep. When I left this movie, I told myself, “she was good and funny and charming, but it is not possible, it is the best.” Then I saw a few other films (“Bright Star” and “An Education” to be exact) and there was no question in my mind, which is not Carey Mulligan ‘training’ No ‘ is not only the best performance this year, but is a wonderfully complete and one of the best performances in each class in this decade. After this movie a second time last night, I was more confused about Streep wins Oscar buzz (and countless Critic Award). Meryl Streep is certainly a force in front of the camera. Almost everything she does is phenomenal. Unfortunately for me, their performance is a bit too far on top. It’s Hammy and while the quality may be interesting at times (his constant cheerfulness is infectious), the script is so dense and hollow, it does little Streep on the woman, who was Julia Child said. There are indications that something subtle is brewing under the surface (their sincere distribution after learning of the pregnancy of his sister), but this film is more about the food (which all looks delicious BTW) focuses, when he told us the truth , the Julia has been entertaining as a person.

Streep, but she is far from deserved Oscar.

As I said Amy Adams is appropriate. If they do not really do anything wrong, but the idea of his character and his life is far too cliche to be something remarkable. The hook in marriage and the forced dissolution is ridiculous, but quite something you saw coming the moment, “she said in her blog that they risk their marriage,” for this experiment. Their desperation sometimes manic endearing and amusing, but nothing we don ‘ have not seen a million times before.

Go as far as the significant others, Stanley Tucci is the best thing about this film (the end of the discussion) and Chris Messina is the worst. I love nature and quiet support from Stanley Tucci. It has that sweetness and quality of those kind of him. I loved in “The Devil Wears Prada” and I find his work here In addition to Streep, are equally charming and endearing. Her warmth never feels forced or awkward (unlike when the Adams SAME TOAST, it fails miserably to ensure it provides natural affection). Messina is just a cliche, the offensive, by revising some of its character is not the case, and so disgusting that he eats his food in pursuing my dreams.

In the end, the biggest culprit here is Nora Ephron, the director and screenwriter. Due to lack the film a bite whatsoever. It is bland and boring, too long and full of generic cliches, much less whether a movie should be as one to make. It is set to inspirational “maturity”, romantic comedy, a biopic about the tone, but there is no chemistry and heat that make this particular film genre so beautiful.

  5. But in reality, instead of spices too, the problem is with this bland film, an incredible amount of kindness. I’ve never seen a movie with no friction * *, no real conflict, no plot – and the action “I do not want to jump the death star. Julie & Julia made me a scene, all things, an episode of Frasier. Niles and Marty somehow mixed their video libraries to the company, and take each other home movies. Niles gets a Charles Bronson movie, which he surprised to be exciting. “I felt the same way about your film, My Dinner with Andre,” calls him by his father.? “Speaking of tension. I always wonder: “Do you want to order dessert,” Who has control? “

Pretty much sums up my reaction to Julie and Julia, a film about not one but two memoirs on. It is difficult on a picture where the act is wrong burned or sliced beef vegetables inspire. Of course, I expect this sort of thing, and it is in all the ads, but I also think, like the film disappeared, there are also more than we would be a somewhat lower than Julia Child, or perhaps even discover Julie Powell, their imitators. But no, three-quarters of the way through the film and we’re always looking down Julie by revenue and breaking tears when one of of them will not come out. Nora Ephron, as a rule, I do not understand, has, as he directs all the sitcom half-mad, forced wide and laughed. (you know just take a dessert creation, for their peers work splat is walking on the sidewalk as it is to move it, no?) Well, I did not expect this to be a Bergman film, but “do we do better? < ; To give br />
one example: a friend of Julie, whose purpose in the film is a bit more courage for Julie, a sweet fight with her at one point and leaves. She could now decided to Cook: Always throw cookbook of her baby in the trash and Julie said in her blog she gives up. (I’m not really the case, but something to spice up this story.) Imagine trying their mother, they talk back, only to hear, as they say, no, it is determined, it is a failure . Again. Then, in a touching moment friend is back – with a gift: He saved the cookbook of the bucket, cleaned and wrapped it presents. It is up to her and she decides to start cooking again right then and there, one morning, or whatever. Well, I know it’s a great moment “Hollywood” in itself, but it’s better than what is happening, which is almost nothing. She said herself, her mother is not really ready to cook, so you know that nothing is really in danger. The story behind today.

Many critics have greeted the end Streep, at least for its routing Julia Child. As she made her usual work admiral in the same time, when it was over I could not help thinking that their performance was one-dimensional. I am sure, Madam children Chipper falsetto and awkward ways all the time, but that is what we see on the screen if they are hosting their TV show or love her husband, whose purpose in the film is little more than to cheer on. (It is a bit on some of disposable McCarthy witch-hunt that is passed in a short time.) I’d like to see JC Meryl assume in their intimate moments of self doubt or reflection have. Instead, we have an idea of identity theft largely worked instead of exploration.

There are some impressive people in this film. Ann Roth is the best costume there now (with the possible exception of Sandy Powell). Alexandre Desplat, who is one of music’s most memorable films of recent years (from birth), provides the music. Scott Rudin himself as one of the producers, always a good sign. Their immense talents do not seem well used by Ephron. The film is like a television show, filmed mostly in medium shots. He Ping-Pong rather expected between the two stories, really try trivial elements common to both cement. There is a certain absurdity, the obsession with food * the film, in its desire to take everything seriously, just missing. In one scene, Julie is so excited that someone comes to dinner at his home. This is put in place and then we cut away just before it shows the person to set up the tension. But when we heard the story of Julie back to discover the names we have never heard of her and Julie admits that, although the woman is a “living legend” Two months ago they No. had not. I suppose it would have been funnier to have the punch, as it is: Who’s who? You: I have no idea too, but I hear it is important! Instead, Ephron seems that we should get all excited about this person. She seems to think that their audience does gourmet trendy Manhattanites. And porn food they have very little “to get.” There are actually some pictures of the abundant food that we prepare in this film, and Roger Ebert noted, the husband of Julie seems to just swallow what is happening worknight grateful to midnight, he finally eat something. (I’m not going to happen again in the fact that I do not buy this story to really move. ‘s 524 recipes in 365 days? Even if you do get sick or having a bad day, that nearly two recipes is one day. Some of them require hours and hours of PREP-time. And she has been employed full time. I’ll be charitable and just say that I ‘m pretty confident they jumped at least a few points. I have the impression that the ground in real life, Julia child not in love with Miss Julie. It seemed that the blog a bit more than simply advertising to consider.)

In the end I think that J & J says more about the age we live in, as something * * Julie or Julia. He seems desperate for celebrities in this Internet age we have people who do things to get excited over trivial. Yes, I think the 524 recipes in cookbooks by Julia Child, when all is said and done, trivial. We apologize for the heroes die of hunger, so we have a lot of them in manufacturing. If we make a real rare (Sully Sullenberger) we overdose on it. We fill the void reality star with talent rockers over-the-Hill, and men like Julie Powell, who is to judge by the reaction of his second book has already spent his 15 minutes.

and the transfer film on the hard drive seem fine. It has been completed, but I had absolutely no interest. I am glad that 60 years that many big stars are forced to retreat, Meryl Streep continues work regularly. I only wish there were other projects are worthy of his talent.
